Artistic Impressions

Artistic Impressions

Since the beginning of humankind we have expressed our thoughts and motives in different ways. Be that of drawing on caves, sculpturing, writing or painting.

When we were presented the topics that we had to work on I immediately chose this one. It was something that I am passionate about and I really enjoy. It was a very special visit for me as it was my first time being on a proper exhibit. I can say one thing that it was the same as I had imagined.

I visited the National Art Gallery where there were several works of art being exhibited. Some of the authors are from home soil and some are from different countries. Located near the Faculty of Education and the National Library. The theme of the exhibit was ‘A place without walls’ and talked about the concept of time and space, language and human relations and home rituals.

The first piece that I noticed was this one. It has a very thoughtful message behind it. I like how wacky it is and also like a lot the colors which are pleasant to the eyes. I also like the message that it describes which is referring to today’s society and how they look at people. On the first one we have a person who is crying and one is covering his ears while the other is shouting. This symbolizes how we have grown cold to one another and do not offer our help.

This piece shows a staircase which is broken. It represents a dream that could not be achieved. The main idea was to show that it is difficult to pursue your passion. For some people it is difficult to do what they want because of their environmental limitations. These broken stairs hit very close to home for me because it reminds me of my dream that I could not achieve. This work brings nostalgia and old memories for me.

This is an interesting sculpture. The focus of this work is the red pepper and the pointy finger. The red pepper symbolizes a bad thing or something that is wrong, while being on the pointy finger describes the action of pointing at somebody. Pointing at someone is considered as rude and disrespectful also could bring attention to someone and make them uncomfortable and embarrassed. I really liked this because of the message that it represents and is a very creative way of doing it.

This was one the most intriguing artwork in the exhibition. At first I did not know what to make of it but when I saw the holes on the board an idea came to my head. The board could be represented as a shield and the hands as a person trying to protect themselves.

All in all it was a marvelous experience where I saw the society that I live in from an artistic point of view. It was fun and had some eye opening messages given through the art.
