Mural to Mural; Feeling to Feeling

Mural to Mural; Feeling to Feeling

Have you ever gone for a walk around the city and felt like everything in it is so gloomy and has no life at all? Well, this cannot be said for the city of Ferizaj, since once you step in it you will be surrounded and astonished by magnificent works of art in its murals all around the city. No wonder that nowadays it is called” The City of Murals” because it never fails to amaze people by representing art, having it wrapped around most of the city’s buildings all coming in different shapes and sizes, each one more meaningful than the other. That is exactly what this blog is going to be about, visiting some of these murals and telling my own experience and feelings that they left me with.

“The Golden Goddess” mural giving life to this old and wrecked building!

This mural located in one of the central buildings in Ferizaj, is personally one of my favorites. Painted this beautifully and looking at all its details, you can really feel the strong message behind it. As I was observing this mural, all I could feel was women empowerment and portraying them as thoughtful and precious creatures in their own. The fact that you could see this mural from far away was too special because I think that people should be reminded more often of how strong women and their abilities are. The earthy tones of the painting made it more fun and enjoyable to look at and the coins wrapped inside the scarf are the main details of it. That’s because they highlight the capability of women and how they can totally do anything they want as long as they stand up for themselves.

Take a look at the amazing “On (Off)line” work of art!

Differently from the previous mural, this one has a completely dissimilar theme. The girl who is standing behind the blinds represents, in one way or other, the ‘Generation Z’. It was worth stopping by and having a look, since most of us can relate to it unfortunately. I immediately thought it portrayed the gap between the digital world and the realistic one and what we choose to represent ourselves with in both of these. I could really feel the confusion and sadness in the eyes of the girl because I have felt like her at some point.
Facing “Covid-19” at a young age!

Passing by this mural, I had flashbacks from the three miserable years in which humankind had to deal with great difficulties and massive isolation, starting from children to the elder ages. I think the mural speaks for itself and really shows the desperate situation when children were willing to go to school again because of the inseparable monotony that was present in our everyday lives during that time. I’ve seen children like her in real life in that condition, so I took it from a very personal perspective. There were times when I felt like I have had enough of the masks, and it was time to go back to the normal life.

  • So, in case you are looking forward to visiting cities of Kosovo in which colors and art are pretty dominant, you should definitely come and visit Ferizaj so you can really enjoy and see the murals I mentioned above and many others from your own perspective leaving you with an amazing experience at the end of the day!
