The rumor they all talk about… (P.S They will never know!)
In the name of the artists, the pseudo- artists, and practically just anyone who's exciting experiences are at risk of going extinct due to our mundane daily routines, this week, I took upon myself to visit "Teatri Oda", one of the two most renowned theatres in our country, in the hopes of finding an activity that is both refreshing and exciting enough to add to your to do list. After scrolling through their online page ... I finally found what I was looking for!...Soon after, there I was, waiting in a crowded line, barely managing to get myself a ticket to what turned out to be one of the most controversial shows that one can expect to watch!.Needless to say, I was not disappointed. So, today, two days later I'm writing this blog to tell you all about my impressions on the "14 juicy" parts around it!.
Tackling war strife, virtue prejudice, social/political oppression, thrifty discussions and much more Agon Myftari’s (director) foul and witty play is set in Prishtina's 90s, a play that constantly leaves a lot to implicate ..., whilst also announcing a direct condemned towards Albanian society, in a reality where gossips, double standards and the usage of foul language are viewed as the "standard lifestyle" behind closed doors. The plot of the play revolves around the protagonist (Besnik Krapi), who plays a young man that gets shot in the bus line number 4, meanwhile his girlfriend, sitting alone inside a coffee shop named “Romantika“, awaits for his arrival, not knowing what has happened to him. There, in that coffee shop, a young lady sits with an older woman (played by Rebeka Qena) and gets heard by everyone around when saying that she can sometimes do it up to 14 times!!
The comical parts start when all the witnesses (belonging to different social profiles) get interrogated upon the murder, but with a vain memory and a lack of interest on the case, sooner or later they all turned out changing the topic to what they had heard the unknown girl say that day, this way shifting the focus towards an unimportant event, where they would hypocritically condemn what they had heard but also lust after it.
After watching the play by myself, and then, also finding out about the success that this show has had in the regional and European tour during 2013 and 2014, (Tirana, Tetovo, Zagreb, Sarajevo, Skopje, Rome, Paris, etc.,) as well as the award that it has been given by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports as "The best representative show in the international arena", I'm very pleased to say that the experience was anything but boring. With few equipment in use, the actors created a rather unique scenography by self-making sounds and also adapting their intonations in incredible synchronicity, successfully making the audience feel amused, awkward, sad, self-conscious and liberated all within less than 2 hours. The event, the acting, the imagery they chose, the scene and the dull lights with the occasional strong light effect were all used to the point of absurdity, showing the fact of life itself, how it continues and how often the various events are nothing more than a banal fact in the big scheme that we call life but then again making us all question how aware we are as human beings about the circumstances in which we find ourselves?, given that we often do not appreciate the fact that the events around us shape us, changing us for life …
