Walls That Protect Treasures

It is often said, that there aren’t many places to visit in Kosovo, so here I am writing my first blog to let people know that there are plenty of interesting places to visit one of them being the National Museum of Kosovo which is located in Prishtina. From this blog, I want people to know that there are places that treasure everything behind the ancient history of Kosovo some of the most priceless remains and also the most important one being its independence.
I had never visited the museum until now and for the first time, I can say that I was pretty impressed. First of all, there were a lot of elements and small details that fascinated me and that stood out in my eyes. Personally, as soon as I walked in and saw the museum something I noticed that I liked was the architecture of this building and the yellow color that it has which makes it unique and interesting at the same time a beautiful view to look at.

Then as I walked into the museum first thing that caught my eye were the objects and the pieces that each of them represents a story. But, as I started to look more into them I noticed a bunch of school kids visiting the museum accompanied by their teachers. The museum guide was, of course, directing them and explaining the objects and their history. I was happy to see that kids are also interested in visiting the museum and knowing more about it. This museum consists of two floors, the first floor includes archaeological exhibitions and a collection of cultural and historical pieces. This floor mostly consists of sculptures, jewelry, vases, and many more. Each element represents an age. An element that I paid more attention to was the bust of the Dardanian goddess sculpted in marble that belonged to the middle 2nd- beginning of the 3rd century. After the first floor, I also visited the second floor which included more of Kosovo’s ancient history. When I was walking up the stairs I saw a large artwork, a mosaic portrait of Mother Teresa with her quote “Peace begins with a smile” which was fascinating to see because it was built only by using staples.

To be honest I liked the second-floor exhibitions which a part of it included the declaration of Kosovo’s Independence surrounded by all the flags of the countries that recognize Kosovo as an independent state. As a citizen of Kosovo, I felt joy while seeing that. A lot of important photographs, documents, and writings are included, as I mentioned the declaration of Kosovo’s Independence, a lot of old writings, and old news from magazines and newspapers. While exploring the museum even more you will be able to see a lot of traditional elements of Kosovo like the clothing. There is also a lot of different kind of weapons. Every single element was really important and valuable and it has a story for people to learn.

I had the opportunity to learn a lot more by visiting the museum, and seeing all the pieces and elements in person so for those who are interested in knowing more about Kosovo’s history this museum would be a perfect choice.
